Characters: Axis Powers Hetalia part 4

Axis Powers Hetalia: Modern Classics

Modern Classics

  • Identical Grandson: Germany looks like Germania with shorter hair. Averted with the Roman Empire, who looks like both his grandsons (or rather both take after him without looking identical); Romano got his hair color, while Italy got his eyes.
    • Germany looks so much like Germania that Funimation thought they were the same person. Lets hope that gets fixed.

Ancient Italy, i.e. the Roman Empire

What!? You don't even * &%&@ on the road!? You've at least kissed a girl, right? Maybe a little bit of !@#$ on the beach!?

  • Bi The Way: Well, he did say he regretted never having sex with a male when alive...
  • Character AlignmentChaotic Good
  • Doting Grandfather: To Italy. "Aww, he's so kyooot~"
  • Dirty Old Man: The 'With Grandpa Rome' strips (in the published manga) hint on this.
  • Eyes Of Gold: In the anime, matching both of his grandsons' eye colors.
  • Hozumi Gouda
  • Love At First Sight: According to his official profile, it happened to him at least twice: with Old Greece (Greece's mother) and Old Egypt (Egypt's mother).
  • Perma Stubble
  • Posthumous Character: Almost only seen in flashbacks (if we don't count the published manga and the filler island cameo in the anime), but even as late as the Chibitalia Renaissance strips, it's all about him. He also confirms that nations age and die with military weakness.
  • Vestigial EmpireThe Vestigial Empire.

Axis Powers Hetalia: Gender Flip Versions

Gender Flip Versions

North Italy

  • Cute Bruiser: She seems to like to punch the people who are the target of her anger, and unlike her male counterpart, is said to display great physical strength when she becomes emotional.
  • Eyes Of Gold
  • Fan Nickname: She's often given the name "Felicia" by the Western fandom as her human name, whereas the Japanese fandom seems to prefer "Alice" (Commonly pronounced as "Ah-LEE-che") judging by how quickly the Pixiv tag for the name filled up after Himaruya mentioned that someone suggested the name to him for female Italy. Guess no one liked "Daisy".
  • Idiot Hair: Retains it from her male counterpart, although it's not yet known whether it's an erogenous zone for her.
  • Plucky Girl
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Pizza!

Germany

  • Badass Longcoat: A really nice green one.
  • Boobs Of SteelWord Of God says that she has a large chest, and it shows in nearly all of the sketches with her.
  • Fan Nickname: Both Western and Japanese fandom commonly call her "Louise" as her human name. Some fans also opt to use "Monica", an unofficial name suggested to Himaruya for female Germany, instead.
  • Nice Hat
  • Spell My Name With An S: There are some fans who prefer to spell her fandom name with the German variant "Luise". On another note, "Monica" is also spelled as "Monika" by some as an alternative.
  • Tomboy: She's certainly got the looks of one and is portrayed as an Action Girl in Fanon.

Japan

America

  • Bare Your Midriff
  • Batter Up: Often depicted with a baseball bat.
  • Fan Nickname: Fans from the Western fandom have often given her the name "Amelia", "Abigail" (shortened to "Abby") or "Allison" (shortened to "Ally"). However, the Japanese fandom seems to prefer the name "Emily" for her.
  • Genki Girl
  • Gray Eyes: Of the 3rd and possibly 5th variety.
  • Stripperific

England/Britain

  • Hospital Hottie: One chibi design shows her wearing a World War Two nurse outfit.
  • Fan Nickname: Both Western and Japanese fandom have given her the name "Alice". And though unofficial, Himaruya had mentioned in his blog that someone had suggested the name "Rosa" for England.
  • Girlish Pigtails
  • Green Eyes
  • Meganekko
  • Spell My Name With An S: As "Rosa" is a Latin name, some fans choose to spell her name more commonly used variant in English, "Rose".
  • Tsundere: In accordance to her male counterpart, she's most commonly portrayed as Type A tsundere by Fanon.

France

  • Bottle Fairy: Holds a wine bottle in a chibi design.
  • Everyone Looks Sexier If French: Her outfits are always stylish and classy.
  • Fan Nickname: She has been given the unofficial name, "Françoise", by both sides of the fandom. Though, there are some fans who alternatively choose "Marianne" as her name instead.
  • The Ojou: Looks much classier than her male counterpart.
  • Purple Eyes

Russia

  • Improbable Weapon User: She trades her male self's pipe for a rather pointy shovel.
  • Fan Nickname: "Anya" is commonly chosen as her human name by fans, and was even suggested to the artist at some point. "Ivanna" is also popular among fans as well.
  • Rapunzel Hair
  • Yandere / Yangire: Is often portrayed as one in fanon, like her male counterpart.

China

Canada

  • Girlish Pigtails
  • Fan Nickname: Western fandom seems to prefer "Madeleine" (shortened to "Maddie") as her name. Also, Himaruya had said on his blog that a fan had suggested her name be "Maguerite" with her nickname being "Meg" for short; this name is unofficial.
  • Meganekko: This added with the pigtails makes her more resemble England than America.
  • Nice Hat: Wears a cute beret.
  • Non Human Sidekick: Like her male counterpart, female Canada has a bear named "Kumarie" who, according to Word Of God, is much more "violent and scarier" than Kumajirou.
  • Shrinking Violet: Appears to be quite shy.

South Italy (Italy Romana)

  • Boobs Of SteelFanon seems to enjoy playing this straight by drawing her as very well-endowed, but canon subverts it with an earlier sketch. She's not a Pettanko, but she certainly doesn't have the largest breasts around.
  • Every Girl Is Cuter With Hair Decs: She is always seen wearing a hairband.
  • Fan Nickname: She is given the name "Lovina" by Western fandom while Japanese fandom, however, calls her "Katarina". According to Himaruya's blog, a fan had once suggested for her name to be "Chiara"; though the name is unofficial.
  • Idiot Hair: She was originally designed without a haircurl, but it was later added back in a 'chibi' sketch.
  • Spell My Name With An S: As "Katarina" is hardly used by Italians, fans sometimes opt to call her, "Catarina", a more commonly used name in Italy.
  • Tsundere: She's been portrayed to be Type A like her male counterpart, but not as fierce.

Spain

  • Flower In Her Hair
  • Genki Girl: She's been portrayed as this in fanworks to in order to match her male counterpart's cheerful nature.
  • Green Eyes
  • Fan Nickname: She is either called "Isabel" or "Carmen" by Japanese fandom while Western fans often prefer to call her "Antonia" or "Rita".
  • Spell My Name With An S: The same with her male counterpart, there is still much debate if her surname should be "Fernandez Carriedo" or "Hernandez Carriedo".
